Skateboarder Bob Burnquist will compete in the Skateboard Big Air and Vert competitions despite back injuries sustained during Big Air practice two days ago.

Burnquist, 35, was taken to California Medical Center but was released after X-ray results were negative for broken bones and spinal injuries. Event officials said he was back on site as a spectator Wednesday.

The Brazilian has withdrawn from Saturday’s Skateboard Park event but will still participate in the other two competitions.

Burnquist has won the Big Air event three times at X Games and is a top contender for a fourth victory this weekend. Overall, he has earned 20 medals since the X Games began in 1995.

He said on his personal Twitter account late Wednesday that he is “working hard to recover in time for finals on Friday.”

Skateboard Big Air heats and final will be held at Chick Hearn Court at 6 p.m. Friday.
