Motocross season finale is Saturday in Lake Elsinore
Top-level motocross racing holds its series finale Saturday at Lake Elsinore Motorsports Park in Riverside County.
Pro motocross, which takes place between May and September, is outdoor motorcycle racing on courses with numerous hills, jumps and tight turns. The stadium version of the sport, called supercross, occurs earlier in the year.
Ryan Dungey of the Red Bull KTM team has dominated the premier 450 class of the Lucas Oil Pro Motocross Championship series this year. He’s won the last nine consecutive races and already clinched his second series title.
Dungey’s first championship came in 2010 when, riding for Suzuki, he won 10 races. The 22-year-old Minnesota native also won the supercross title that year.
Other riders scheduled Saturday include Suzuki rider Mike Alessi of Victorville, who is second in the point standings behind Dungey; Honda rider Andrew Short of Texas and Kawasaki rider Josh Grant of Riverside.
Practice for the Red Bull Lake Elsinore National, which includes the 450 class and two other classes, starts Saturday at 8:30 a.m., and the races begin at 1 p.m.
