Mike Trout out of Angels’ lineup for at least one more game

An Angels team that scored just three runs in 23 innings of two games without Mike Trout will have to go another day — and possibly more — without its star outfielder and top hitter.

Trout will miss Wednesday’s series finale against the Cleveland Indians because of a tight right hamstring, and Manager Mike Scioscia did not seem optimistic that Trout, who is batting .333 with 21 home runs and 78 runs batted in, would be ready for Friday’s game in Seattle. Trout did some agility drills Tuesday but was unable to run.

“He has some hurdles to clear—he’s not ready to play,” Scioscia said. “If he isn’t good getting out of the box, we’re not going to put him at risk. We’re not going to feel comfortable putting him out there until he has a good workout, and that won’t happen until Friday.”

Howie Kendrick (left-knee sprain) was eligible to come off the disabled list Wednesday, but it appears doubtful the second baseman will return by this weekend. He has been hitting, fielding and jogging but hasn’t run at full speed.

The Angels moved to bolster an overworked bullpen Wednesday, recalling right-hander Billy Buckner from triple-A and optioning outfielder Collin Cowgill back to Salt Lake. Relievers Michael Kohn and Kevin Jepsen have thrown three days in a row and are unavailable Wednesday.
