Jamal Crawford sits out game against Lakers because of sore foot

Share

Jamal Crawford didn’t play against the Lakers on Friday night because of a sore left foot.

Crawford said it wasn’t a sure thing that he would miss the Clippers game Saturday night at Staples Center against the Golden State Warriors, however.

Crawford got X-rays of his foot Friday and will get another one today. He has been getting therapy since Wednesday.

He was injured in the first half of the Denver Nuggets game Tuesday night but still played in the Golden State game Wednesday night because Caron Butler wasn’t available.

“You hate to miss a game like this, that’s for sure,” Crawford said. “But I’m looking at the big picture. It’s definitely smarter to rest it. I played through it at Golden State.”

If Crawford were to skip Saturday’s Golden State game, he would get four more days off to rest the foot because the Clippers don’t play again until Wednesday, when they face Dallas at home.

If he also skipped Wednesday’s game and waited to play until the Orlando game next Saturday, he would get a week to rest his injury.

“I honestly didn’t look at it like that,” he said. “Not all. Hopefully I don’t miss that many games, for sure.”

Crawford was asked if he’ll definitely sit out the Golden State game.

“I didn’t say that,” Crawford responded. “No, I just want to take it moment by moment. Hopefully it gets better.”

Crawford said it’s probably easy to figure out why he injured his foot.

He said he has been wearing the same shoes “since we met in September.”

Crawford said that most players change shoes every game, or at least after several games.

But not Crawford.

“I think I’m superstitious and I wanted to keep the same shoes,” Crawford said. “And I wore them at home and on the road and I couldn’t really feel them. They were flimsy and if you looked at them, they looked pretty beat up. So I think that’s what happened, doing a move.”

Butler plays despite not feeling well

Butler was back playing against the Lakers on Friday night after missing Wednesday night’s game at Golden State for personal reasons.

Butler didn’t participate in Friday’s shoot-around because of a sinus migraine.

But despite not feeling well, Butler suited up and played.

“It’s all bad,” Butler said before the game. “But I’m going to work. My head is still banging too.”

Billups, Hill injury update

Clippers Coach Vinny Del Negro said Chauncey Billups (peroneal tendinitis, left foot) will start working out Saturday “a little bit.”

Del Negro said he expects Grant Hill (bone bruise, right knee) “back next week” playing “if there are no setbacks.”

“They are both making progress,” Del Negro said.
