Washington has been nothing if not consistent under Coach Steve Sarkisian.

The Huskies had a 7-6 record in 2010 … and were 7-6 in 2011 … and were 7-6 in 2012.

“The reality is we’re better football team last season,” Sarkisian said. “Unfortunately, the record wasn’t an indication of how good a team it was. In our heart of hearts we know we were better than 7-6 …. But the only statistic that matters in wins and losses.”

Sarkisian said the Huskies have had a “chip on our shoulder” since the season ended.

Quarterback Keith Price took that personally.

“I have a lot prove myself and a lot to prove to you guys,” Price said. “When I perform my best is when people are doubting me.”

Price’s job will be little easier with tight end Austin Serferian-Jenkins in the lineup.

Serferian-Jenkins, a third-team All-American, pleaded guilty this month to driving under the influence and served one day in jail. Sarkisian said Jenkins has served his debt to society, though the debt to the coach is still to come.

“He will be with us for the opening of training camp,” Sarkisian said. “He handled himself like I knew he would. He’s a great kid who made a mistake. It’s a lesson for all the guys on our team. We will handle the punishment internally, on the football team.”
