Clippers, Celtics expected to continue Doc Rivers trade talk Thursday

The talks that resumed between the Clippers and Boston Celtics on Wednesday are expected to resume again Thursday for Coach Doc Rivers and Kevin Garnett to come to Los Angeles, said league officials who weren’t authorized to speak publicly on the situation.

That makes it pretty obvious neither said was able to come to an agreement on a compensation package to the other’s liking.

The Clippers were prepared to trade DeAndre Jordan and a first-round draft pick to the Celtics for the rights to Rivers and for Garnett, who was going to waive his no-trade clause to join his coach in Los Angeles, the officials said.

The Clippers also were willing to pay Jordan’s trade kicker of $3.5 million.

But the Celtics had insisted on a second first-round draft pick that the Clippers refused to give up, the officials said.

Whatever transpired between Gary Sacks, the Clippers’ vice president of basketball operations, and Danny Ainge, Boston’s president of basketball operations, on Wednesday didn’t move the needle enough to get a deal done.

So the Clippers moved forward.

They had Indiana associate head coach Brian Shaw in Wednesday for his second interview with the Clippers’ front office and Shaw still was scheduled to have dinner with owner Donald Sterling Wednesday night.
