Chris Paul has Grade 3 separation, could miss six weeks; no surgery
An MRI test Sunday revealed that Chris Paul has a Grade 3 acromioclavicular (or AC) joint separation in his right shoulder, an injury the Clippers said would sideline their All-Star guard up to six weeks.
But Paul will not require surgery on his shoulder, the team announced.
The injury is in the area connecting the collarbone with the shoulder blade. Paul’s injury is to his shooting shoulder.
When Paul was injured Friday night at Dallas, the Clippers thought he would be out three to five weeks.
A potential six-week timetable would have the point guard returning after the All-Star break, which is Feb. 14-17. Their first game after the break is Feb. 18 against the San Antonio Spurs at Staples Center.
A six-week absence would cause Paul to miss a total of 20 games.
Since Paul joined the club during the 2011-12 season, the Clippers are 10-10 when he hasn’t played, and 109-55 when he has played.
They beat Dallas after Paul was injured in the third quarter Friday night, but lost to the Spurs on Saturday night.
