Tony Romo agrees with unhappy fans, even after career passing day

Tony Romo had a career day on Sunday. At least that’s what some people are saying about the Dallas Cowboys quarterback’s performance against the New York Giants.

And those people are absolutely correct. His 437 passing yards are the most Romo has thrown for in his seven years as the Cowboys’ starter. He also set a franchise record with 62 passing attempts, and if his late pass to Dez Bryant in the end zone hadn’t been reversed, Romo would have set a new team mark with 474 passing yards.

But throw in four interceptions -- including three in the Cowboys’ first four drives as the Giants built a 23-0 lead -- and what do you get? A quarterback who was booed by the home fans on his “career day.”

“I would have booed us, too,” Romo said. “We deserved it at that time. We did not start the game the way we wanted to.”

By the way, Romo’s four interceptions were not a career high -- in fact, they weren’t even a season high. He has thrown five in a game twice in his career, including once during a 34-18 loss to the Chicago Bears three weeks ago.

Romo did help the team rally to a 24-23 lead before ultimately losing a heartbreaker, 29-24. He finished with one touchdown pass and a very unspectacular passer rating of 58.4 as the Cowboys dropped to 3-4 and 2 1/2 games behind the Giants in the NFC East.

The shaky quarterback wasn’t the only one who heard it from the fans early in the game. Team owner Jerry Jones was also booed when his pre-recorded public service announcement about breast cancer awareness was played on the giant screen at Cowboys Stadium.

“Seriously. I’m sure the fans had the same feeling I did,” Jones said. “I was frustrated, mad and knew that we had dug ourselves a hole that was going to take super effort to get out of.”
