A representative of the Clippers has met with free-agent forward Hedo Turkoglu within the last two days to see if he would be someone the team might sign to a contract, according to NBA executives who were not authorized to speak publicly on the matter.

Turkoglu was waived by the Orlando Magic on Friday, making him free to join any team after he cleared waivers.

After Clippers all-star point guard Chris Paul went down with a separated right shoulder that will keep him out up to six weeks, Coach Doc Rivers said the team would look not only for another point guard but also a ball-handling small forward.

The 6-foot-10 Turkoglu has been known to have the kind of ball-handling skills that could allow him to run the offense from the small forward position.

But he had been told to stay away from the Magic this season, and he played for Orlando in only 11 games last season because of injuries and a 20-game suspension for use of performance-enhancing drugs.

Turkoglu, 34, has averaged 11.9 points and 3.1 assists over his 13-year NBA career.
