Prep Basketball GIRLS : Louisville, Leading, 25-0, Wins It Easily

Louisville High scored the first 25 points of the game en route to a 27-2 first-quarter advantage and then wasn’t threatened in the San Fernando Valley League game at Immaculate Heart Tuesday afternoon. The Royals raised their overall record to 10-3 and 3-0 in the league. Immaculate Heart has a 1-4 league record.

Two of Louisville’s starters saw limited playing time. Andrea Knapp, averaging more than 19 points per game, was held to four points while being slowed by the flu. Karen Secky had an injured ankle that limited her playing time. She scored six points.

Louisville’s Marianella Cruz had a triple-double with 16 points, 11 assists and 12 rebounds. Tina Kohler of Louisville was the high scorer for the game with 18 points.

Calabasas 71, Santa Paula 37 Calabasas High outrebounded Santa Paula, 56-19, in the rout led by 6-0 Janet Seligman and 5-10 Sandi Thomsen. The pair had 17 and 10 rebounds respectively. Each had 10 points.

Heidi Thorsen led the scorers with 14 points for Calabasas which is now 7-6 for the season and 1-0 in the Frontier League. Santa Paula’s record dropped to 6-2 and 1-1 in the league.

Saugus 50, Canyon 23 Saugus High shut out Canyon in the second period and evened its record in the Golden League with an easy win over Canyon. Overall, Saugus is 3-7.

Patti Miller led the winners with 15 points with Holly Ingersoll adding 14. Margaret Mountain scored 15 of Canyon’s 23 points.

North Hollywood 59, Poly 15 The game was called with 4 1/2 minutes left in the game. Poly High had only four players left after one fouled out and two others had injuries. Both coaches agreed to stop the Valley 3-A contest.

North Hollywood ran up the score early with a 19-3 first-quarter lead. Denise Hammond had 15 points with Sonja Robertson adding 13 points and 15 rebounds. Ardonia Hawthorne had 11 points and eight assists.

West Valley Christian 34, Jenkins 6 West Valley Christian High had a shutout for the first two periods on their way to a 16-0 lead. The Seekers are now 4-0 overall and 2-0 in the Christian Schools Athletic Conference. It was the first game of the season for Jenkins Academy.

Stephanie Hancock had 12 points for the winners who are in their second year of basketball. Reseda 48, Monroe 35 Reseda won its fifth game in six starts and stayed unbeaten in the Valley 3-A league. Monroe is in its first season of girls basketball and hasn’t won this season.

Sherry Jackson had 14 points for the winning Regents while Desiree Mims had 13 points.

Crossroads 54, Buckley 20 Crossroads School turned on the defense in the third quarter and outscored Buckley, 18-1, to gain a 39-16 lead on its way to a Delphic League victory. The Roadrunners are 3-0 in league while Buckley is now 2-1. Overall, Buckley is 5-5.

Sharon Bruner had 15 points for the winners and paced the third-quarter runaway with eight steals. Kim Turner had 13 points and 15 rebounds while Gaby Banks had 10 assists.

Ariana Lallone, a 6-1 junior center for Buckley, had 17 rebounds while scoring eight points.

Brentwood 41, Campbell Hall 39 Campbell Hall made it close in the fourth period but couldn’t overtake Brentwood in the Delphic League game.

Down, 33-24, entering the fourth period, Campbell cut the margin to two in the last 25 seconds but turned the ball over. Brentwood held on for the win.

Campbell Hall, 1-6 overall and 0-2 in league, was led by Dana Gelb with 21 points. Brentwood is 2-8 for the season.

Bell-Jeff 67, Notre Dame 30 Bell-Jeff raised its overall record to 8-4 with the rout of Notre Dame. It is 2-1 in the San Fernando Valley League. Notre Dame is winless in four league games. Notre Dame is 2-8 overall.

Cathi Cotter had 21 points and 12 rebounds for the winners. Freshman Jennifer Gomez had 17 points. Lisa Rodriguez had six assists for the winners.
