Prep Basketball GIRLS : Hauser Gets 1000th Point as Alemany Defeats Notre Dame

Senior guard Ilene Hauser earned a place in the Alemany High basketball record book when she scored her 1000th point with seven minutes left in the second period of the Indian Maiden’s 65-23 rout over Notre Dame at home Wednesday night.

Hauser didn’t let the milestone get in her way, however, as the three-time all-CIF guard scored a game-high 17 points and made 10 assists.

Notre Dame was led by sophomore forward Kristen Borella, who had seven points and 12 rebounds.

The Knights, who fell to 0-5 in the 3-A San Fernando Valley League, had a tough time hitting from the field, averaging fewer than six points per quarter. Their difficulties were compounded by Alemany’s stifling defense.

Also scoring in double figures for the Indian Maidens were senior center Kathy Desautels, with 14 points, and sophomore guard Jenny Beubis, with 11. Alemany is now 5-0 in league games and 8-5 overall.

Canoga Park 66, Birmingham 49 A balanced scoring attack led Canoga Park High girls team over Birmingham in the Valley 3-A League encounter.

Jeannie Washington led the losers with 25 points.

Canoga Park raised its league record to 3-0 and is preparing for an important league encounter with unbeaten North Hollywood next Wednesday.

Chatsworth 71, Taft 33 Chatsworth High coasted to its first Valley 4-A League victory after four Taft players fouled out. Taft was forced to play the fourth period with just three players on the floor.

Alissa Morton had 28 Taft’s 33 points. The 5-10 junior also had 11 rebounds. Her team is winless in three league games and 0-7 overall.

Van Nuys 57, Granada Hills 35 Van Nuys won easily to set up a first-place showdown at Reseda on Friday in the East Valley 3-A League. Van Nuys and Reseda are both 3-0.

Van Nuys’ Shawn Price had 26 points and 19 rebounds for the Wolves, who are 5-2 overall.

Kennedy 69, El Camino Real 53 Kennedy High improved its record to 3-0 in the Valley 4-A league with its victory over El Camino Real. Overall the Golden Cougars are 10-4.

Kennedy’s Stacy Parson had 33 points for the winners. Diane DeCree and Christie Jones had 10 each for Kennedy.

Cleveland 57, Grant 36 Cleveland High came roaring from behind with a second-half blitz to raise its record to 13-3 for the season and 3-0 in the Valley 4-A League.

Cleveland was trailing, 24-19, as the third quarter began. Grant’s Louise Collins was almost single-handedly responsible for her team’s halftime lead as she put in 14 points over the first two periods.

San Fernando 49, Verdugo Hills 34 San Fernando High raced to a 14-4 first-period lead, then coasted to the victory in a battle for the cellar in the Valley 3-A league.

Verdugo Hills hasn’t won in three league games. It is 0-7 for the season. San Fernando won its first in three tries in the league and is 2-4 overall.

Bell-Jeff 49, St. Genevieve 27 Bell-Jeff raised its record to 3-1 in the San Fernando Valley League as reserves played most of the second half. Bell-Jeff is now 9-4 on the season.

Lisa Rodriguez and Cathi Cotti led the Guards’ scoring with 16 and 15 points respectively. Cotti also had 15 rebounds.

Glendale 73, Arcadia 38 Glendale High’s Martha Rankin had 29 points, while teammate Erin Cassidy added 18 in the win over Arcadia. Glendale boosted its record to 2-0 in the Pacific League and 8-6 overall.

Rankin, a 6-foot center, had 16 rebounds while Cassidy had 20 rebounds. Susan Siam chipped in with 16 points for Glendale.

Louisville 63 Corvallis 45 Impressive first-quarter and third-quarter spurts helped Louisville boost its record to 4-0 in the San Fernando Valley League.

Louisville’s Andrea Knapp, still bothered by the flu, had 19 points and 11 rebounds. The Royals are 11-3 for the season. Corvallis is 3-2 in league competition.

Muir 74, Hoover 19 Muir High ran to a 21-1 advantage in the second quarter, then eased off the rest of the way as it raised its record to 13-1 for the season. In the Pacific League, Muir is 2-0, while Hoover is 1-1.

Sisters Pauline and Jeanne Jordan led Muir with 24 and 20 points, respectively. Hoover’s high scorer was Silvia Antanaitis with 11 points.

Chaminade 45, Immaculate Heart 30 In a San Fernando Valley League game, Daiva Tomkus had 16 points and Melissa Ingalls had 14 to pace Chaminade High to its eighth win in 12 games this season. Chaminade is 2-3 in the league.

Immaculate Heart is 1-4 in the league and 3-8 overall.
