Jake Devane didn’t push Cal Prep past Oak Hill single-handedly. But then, he didn’t exactly need a lot of help either.

Devane scored 54 points, including the winning margin on two free throws with three seconds remaining to give Cal Prep a 79-77 victory Friday at Oak Hill.

The Liberty League contest was mostly a shootout between Devane, a guard, and Raider guard Dave Friedman. The sophomore Friedman poured in 40 points, an Oak Hill school record.

“Devane was simply unstoppable,” Raider Coach Moses Jones said, “especially on drives through the lane to the basket.”

Devane, a senior who stands only 5-8, grabbed 11 rebounds and had 10 assists in addition to 20 field goals and 14 of 17 free throws.

“That was the best all-around game by a high school basketball player I’ve ever seen,” Cal Prep Coach Rob Hertenstein said .

The Knights improved their record to 4-1 in league and 7-7 overall. Oak Hill fell to 2-2, and is 4-2 overall.

Covenant Faith 29, West Simi Christian 22 Taylor Kensten, a 6-5 center, scored 16 points and dominated the rebounding to lead Covenant Faith to victory in a game played at Mason Park in Northridge.

Covenant Faith, with two 6-2 players and Kensten, towered over the Eagles, whose tallest player is 6-0.

Pater Noster remained winless in league at 0-5.

Faith Baptist 76, Buckley 57 Despite serious foul trouble for three of its starters, Faith Baptist was able to stretch its Delphic League record to 3-0 with its school-record 12th straight win. That streak began after the Contenders lost their first two games,

Center Gerald Thomas (23 points, 12 rebounds, two assists), forward Kevin Burton (12 points, seven rebounds) and Koko Simonian had three fouls each by the end of the first quarter. Faith Baptist, however, broke through a full-court press with a series of fast-break baskets late in the first half to break the game open. The Eagles (1-2 in league, 4-10 overall) opened up a 12-1 lead in the first 5:30 of the game. David Reiner scored the Saracens’ first basket after getting the rebound of a Joel Farkas shot with 1:35 left in the quarter. The closest Harvard got was 14-7 early in the second quarter.

Part of the Saracens’ problem was that they made only two of 10 free throws in the first half and only two of nine field goal attempts in the first quarter.

“We just didn’t shoot well,” Harvard Coach Dave Waterhouse said. “They also hurt us on the boards.”

The Eagles outrebounded Harvard 35-24, including 25-14 on the defensive end.
