Garden Grove League : Patton Leads Rancho Alamitos to Win, 63-59

Rancho Alamitos High School, paced by Rueben Patton’s 17 points, came from behind for a, 63-59, overtime victory over Garden Grove Friday at Garden Grove.

Patton’s most important points came with 12 seconds remaining in regulation. That’s when he hit a short jump shot to put the game into overtime. The Vaqueros’ John Hong scored the overtime’s first basket with 1:20 remaining, but Garden Grove’s Brent Crone tied the score again with 59 seconds left.

The Vaqueros got free throws from Roger Carter and Lance Perry to again take a two-point lead and when the Argonauts turned the ball over with 28 seconds left, Don Nguyen hit two free throws to secure the victory.

Jim O’Connor led Garden Grove (3-1, 10-7) with 16 points.

La Quinta 71, Bolsa Grande 64--Scott St. John led the Aztecs with 19 points on 9 of 12 shooting. His performance sparked a fine shooting night for La Quinta. The Aztecs made 29 of 47 shots (61%).

John Lee added 18 points and 4 assists for La Quinta (6-9, 2-2). Nathan Barker had 12 points and Mike Zugates led the team with 6 rebounds.

Nam Cao led all scorers with 23 points. Bolsa Grande also is 2-2 in league play.

Santiago 54, Los Amigos 43--Darryl Curry and Rick Burns combined for 33 points as the Cavaliers improved their record to 2-2 in league play and 9-7 overall. Los Amigos (0-4) is still searching for its first league win and is 2-13 overall.
