Shrine All-Stars--Seven area high school football players have been named to the South team for the 34th annual Shrine Football Classic July 27 at 7 p.m. at East Los Angeles College’s Weingart Stadium. They are quarterback Mike McMaster of St. John Bosco, wide receiver Michael Roberts of Poly, offensive lineman Marcus Doukenick of Poly, defensive linemen Chris Nichols of La Mirada and Scott Zowada of Warren, and linebackers William Amelong of Wilson and David Ortegas of St. Paul.

Kick Boxing--A Junior Olympics qualification tournament in Taekwondo, a Korean martial art similar to kick boxing, will be held Saturday at 10 a.m. at Millikan High School. Gold, silver and bronze medal winners in 138 categories will represent California in the National Taekwondo Junior Olympics July 18-20 in River Grove, Ill. Many of this year’s competitors will likely be considered for the first U.S. Taekwondo Olympics team in the 1988 Seoul Summer Olympics.

Softball Stars--Brenda Zetzman of Cerritos High School has been named to the 1985 All-Southern California 4-A Softball Team selected by coaches. Tracey Case of Downey and Sheilagh Flanagan of Millikan were named to the second team.

Referees Clinic--A clinic for prospective basketball referees wil be conducted Monday night at the Blair Field sports office conference room in Long Beach. The clinic will be held on eight successive Mondays. Cost is $25. For additional information, call 594-8135 or 594-8254.

Basketball Camp--A girls’ basketball camp at Cal State Long Beach, directed by 49ers Coach Joan Bonvicini, wil be held Aug. 18-23. Girls ages 9-17 may participate. Overnight campers will be charged $250, day campers $150. Call 498-4983 for more information.
