CSUN Discovers Defensive End Out of Eligibility

Cal State Northridge defensive end Tony Destafano was found to be out of eligibility Thursday after the school learned that he had played two years at Texas Christian University.

In the Aug. 22 editions of The Times, Destafano was reported to have received a football scholarship from TCU, but never played.

But according to CSUN Coach Tom Keele, TCU officials said this week that Destafano had played in two preseason games for the Horned Frogs in 1981 and in 1982, his last year.

Keele said the 6-4, 245-pounder from Pasadena played two years at Pasadena City College, “and we thought he only played one year at TCU.”

“Before he withdrew (at TCU), he played a couple of ballgames for for them. He was honest with us. He thought since the games weren’t league games that they didn’t count (against his eligibility).”
