Women Hit the Field for Football Tryouts

Share

About a dozen women hustled their way through a series of sprints and pass-catching drills Saturday at Los Angeles Valley College in Van Nuys on the first day of tryouts for the Los Angeles Scandals football team.

The Scandals, an all-woman professional team, played several charity games last year, general manager Teresa Ray said. The team plans to play eight more charity games at Valley College this year, against other National Women’s Football League teams.

The would-be players who showed up Saturday endured a loose series of sprints and agility drills, when they weren’t running pass patterns on the Valley College practice field.

The tryouts were staged in hopes of finding new players for the 20-member squad, which may be expanded to 40 by the beginning of the season.

The drills end today. Ray said she expects about 20 women to try out for the team.
