Laguna Beach Defeats Elsinore 17-14
Laguna Beach High School quarterback John Kimball combined with Kent Chesley on a 23-yard touchdown pass play with 5:41 remaining Friday night to lift the Artists to a 17-14, come-from-behind victory over Elsinore High in a nonleague game played on the Tigers’ field at Elsinore.
Kimball completed 14 of 28 passes for 247 yards in the game, while Laguna Beach running back Jonathon Todd added 169 yards on 20 carries and scored on a one-yard run in the second quarter.
Elsinore had taken a 14-10 lead with 7:55 left when quarterback Harold Beasley hit Antoin Daily with a 13-yard touchdown pass and Hank Alonzo added a two-point conversion.
The Tigers had a chance to take the lead late in the game when Beasley ran from his own 27-yard line to the Artist 15. But the quarterback fumbled at the end of his run and Todd recovered to preserve the win for the Artists (2-0).
