Moorpark Won’t Break Tradition

Share

Moorpark High went into Friday night’s game with 51 consecutive losses to Carpinteria. After a 28-0 defeat, the streak stands at 52.

Until the third quarter, it looked as if the Muskateers might break the streak that dates back to before World War II. Then the size and strength of the Warriors took over.

Moorpark is now 0-1 in the Tri-Valley league (3-3 overall) and Carpinteria is 1-0 (4-2 overall).

With 9:11 left in the third quarter, Jon Keiser ran 29 yards down to the Moorpark 37-yard line. Four plays after Keiser’s run, David Adcock scored from five yards out with 7:41 to go in the quarter to give Carpinteria a 7-0 lead.

A combination of size, strength and Muskateer mistakes gave the Warriors a 14-0 lead by the end of the third quarter.

With six minutes left in the third quarter, Carpinteria defensive back Ruben Zerguche intercepted Moorpark quarterback Tim Rothanze and returned the ball 15 yards to the Muskateer 36.

Zerguche, also a quarterback, took advantage of his own interception and ran one yard to give the Warriors a 14-0 lead.

After recovering a Moorpark fumble with 10 seconds left in the third quarter, Carpinteria had people exiting the stadium. With a 1:09 left in the game, Adcock scored his second touchdown of the game from a yard out to give the Warriors a 21-0 lead.

Moorpark’s only bright moment of the game came in the first quarter. With Carpinteria running the ball with ease down the field, Zerguche attempted a pass from the Muskateer 17-yard line. Under a heavy rush, Zerguche was forced to throw off balance and was intercepted by Moorpark defensive lineman Ralph Velador.
