FALL SPORTS HIGHLIGHTS : Chaminade Captures 15th Match in Row

Chaminade High continued to cruise through its San Fernando Valley League girls volleyball schedule Thursday, defeating St. Genevieve in consecutive games, 15-4, 15-13, 15-1. The win was the Eagles’ 15th straight.

Chaminade, ranked second in the Southern Section’s 4-A Division, improved its record to 12-0 in league and 16-1 overall. St. Genevieve fell to 5-7 in league.

Senior Daiva Tomkus paced Chaminade with 13 kills and four blocks. Teammate Kathy Ahl contributed 12 kills and five aces. Melissa Ingalls added 10 kills and three blocks.

L.A. Baptist won its 50th straight Alpha League girls volleyball game and clinched the league championship with a 15-5, 15-3, 15-3 rout of Western Christian. The Knights (12-0 in league, 13-1 overall) combined for 18 kills and seven aces.

Seniors Scott Chodorow and Greg Ruh scored six goals apiece, leading Calabasas to a 20-8 Frontier League water polo victory over cross-town rival Agoura.

Chodorow also had three assists and Ruh added two assists.

Junior Tracey Gonzales recorded nine kills as she led Calabasas to a 15-3, 16-14, 15-7 victory over Santa Clara in Frontier League girls volleyball.

The Coyotes improved to 5-1 in league and 7-2 overall.

Montclair Prep clinched a spot in the Southern Section girls volleyball playoffs with a 15-5, 15-7, 15-11 victory over Alpha League rival LaVerne Lutheran.

The win guarantees the Mounties no worse than a third-place finish in league play.

Montclair was paced by juniors Cheryl Conly and Amy Lehrner. Conly recorded 14 kills and five blocks, while Lehrner had seven kills and two blocks.

In other volleyball action, Alemany (8-4 in San Fernando Valley League, 10-6 overall) defeated Corvallis (0-12, 0-12), 15-6, 4-15, 15-3, 15-4.
