High school girls would be allowed to wrestle and play football with boys under a proposed policy change being drafted by the San Diego Unified School District. The change, which does not require approval of the school board, was prompted by a request from a female Mira Mesa High School student that she be allowed to try out for the boys’ wrestling team, said Wayne C. DeBate, the school system’s secondary athletics manager. He added: “I guess we were trying to stay a jump ahead of what we figured might be inevitable.”
