Borup Leads Moorpark Women in 59-42 Win Over Allan Hancock
Guard Suzan Borup was the feature attraction as the Moorpark College women’s basketball team opened Western State Conference play Thursday.
Moorpark Coach Anthony Smith said Borup “didn’t have a good night,” but the sophomore scored a game-high 24 points to lead the Raiders to a 59-42 victory over Allan Hancock.
“Suzan’s shot selection wasn’t the best. She wasn’t making the easy shots,” Smith said. “I think she will come around, though. She works a lot, and Christmas vacation may have affected the way she played.”
Moorpark led at the half, 22-17, after holding back Hancock for the entire period.
The Raiders play at home against Taft on Saturday at 5 p.m. Smith believes his team has a shot at the conference title if it can beat teams such as Taft.
“Taft is going to be a crucial game for us,” he said. “We’ve lost a lot of close games to very good teams.”
Sherry Ruter scored 14 points for the Raiders, and Dyan Miller added eight.
ALLAN HANCOCK--Parrish 14; Gray 10; Davis 6; Sandoval 6; Rehder 4.
MOORPARK--Borup 24; Ruter 14; Miller 8; Simcik 6; Rumble 6.
