Russell Patterson, a 6-0, 215-pound nose guard from San Mateo College, is one of three junior college recruits to enroll for the spring semester at Cal Lutheran, Kingsmen assistant coach Ernie Sandlin announced. He joins David Moore, a 6-1, 210-pound strong safety from Phoenix College, and Terry Rowe, a 6-0, 210-pound linebacker from Glendale (Ariz.) College.

Mark Camper, a 6-2, 235-pound center from Moorpark College and Camarillo High, has enrolled at Northern Arizona University. Lumberjacks Coach Larry Kentera said Camper will begin classes Jan. 20.

Don Tamburo, a teacher and former baseball coach at Kennedy High, has been named as an assistant at Pepperdine University.

A testimonial dinner for Nick Giovinazzo, who retired as an instructor at Valley College in August after 30 years of teaching and coaching in the Valley, will be held Jan. 19 at the Northridge Women’s Club beginning at 5 p.m.

Giovinazzo, who helped introduce the concept of all-comers track meets in Los Angeles, coached at Van Nuys and Monroe high schools before moving to Valley College in 1962.

Friends and former athletes of Giovinazzo are encouraged to attend. Cost is $15.

The West Coast Basketball Championship, featuring eight teams of law enforcement and public services personnel, will be held Saturday and Sunday at Valley College. Games begin at 9 a.m. each day.
