Santana Has the Top Spot in Baseball Poll

SAN DIEGO — Santana High School, winner of the the 1986 Lions tournament and San Diego Section 3-A champion in 1984, is the No. 1-ranked team in this week’s Times Top 10. The Sultans, led by left-hander Mike Hook, are 9-1 overall and 1-0 in the Grossmont League.
Fallbrook, with the county’s best record at 12-1, is No. 2. Serra (10-2) is ranked No. 3.
The Grossmont, Palomar, City Eastern and Metro-Mesa leagues all have two teams ranked.
Neither of last season’s section championship schools are ranked. Hilltop, the defending 2-A champ, is 3-5. Mira Mesa, which won the 3-A title last season, is 7-7 and ranked among the best of the rest.
