Four Tied for Second-Round Sailing Lead
Four sailors were tied for the lead Monday after the first day of the second round of the Hobie 17 U.S. National Sailing Championships at La Jolla Shores.
Enrique Figueroa of Puerto Rico, Carlton Tucker of Ft. Walton Beach, Fla., George Hicks of Torrance and Dave Renouf of Los Angeles all scored .75 points.
Wayne Mooneyham of San Jose and Paul Tobie of Oakland tied for fifth with two points. Woodie Cope of Tampa, Fla., Brian Bell of Del Mar and Brian Smith of San Diego were tied for seventh with four points.
The second round of the competition will conclude today. The finals, which will include the top 36 qualifiers from each round, will start Wednesday. The first round ended Sunday.
