Rohde and Deiley Signed by Houston Astros
Dave Rohde, a shortstop from Corona del Mar High School who helped the University of Arizona baseball team win the College World Series this season, and Louie Deiley, a catcher who graduated from Estancia and has started for the past two seasons at Tulane, have signed contracts with the Houston Astros.
Rohde, a 1982 graduate of Corona del Mar who was selected in the June draft, will report to Auburn, N.Y. to play for the Astros’ Class A affiliate in the New York-Penn League. He hit .375 as the Wildcats’ No. 9 hitter and starting shortstop this year.
Deiley, an 1981 graduate of Estancia, signed as a free agent and will report to Sarasota, Fla. to play for the Astros’ Rookie-League team in the Gulf Coast League.
