SportScope : Bruin Soccer Star Will Hold Youth Clinic

Locke High dominates the All-City track selections among South Bay teams, while Hawthorne is the best-represented South Bay school on the All-CIF team. Both teams were selected by the First Interstate Bank-Amateur Athletic Foundation of Los Angeles board.

Boys All-City selections are Carlos Moya of Narbonne in 1600 meters, Vincent Thompson in 800 meters and the 1600 relay team from Locke. Girls All-City choices are Trudy Palmer from Westchester in both 400 and 800 meters, Locke’s LeAnn Tinkshell in 200 meters and the Locke 400 and 1600 relay teams.

All-CIF boys selections from Hawthorne are Travis Hanna in the 400 meters and the 1600 relay team. Among the girls, Hawthorne’s Tami Stiles was selected in both 100 and 200 meters. The school’s two girls relay teams, both of which feature Stiles, were also chosen.

Seven members of the Southern California Football Officials Assn.-South Bay have been selected to work the West Torrance Lions All-Star football game Aug. 7 at El Camino College. Bill Agopian of Westchester will serve as referee; Wayne Windman of Culver City, umpire; John Gomez, Wilmington, head linesman; Jim Wallace, Torrance, line judge; Steve Archuleta, Torrance, field judge; Jim Lundquist, Redondo Beach, back judge; and Bob Yoakum, Torrance, alternate. The officials were selected by the association’s board of directors.
