Taft High’s Larry Pearl was selected to the All-City tennis first team. Jonathan Holiday of Chatsworth and Tony Cohen of El Camino Real were second-team selections, while Marc Keating of Granada Hills, Brian Rubenstein of Kennedy and Loren Gesas of Birmingham made the third team.

The North Hollywood doubles teams of David Kaiden and Jason Freeman, and Natt Narthong and Bruce Osterman made the All-City doubles first team.

Brad Helman and James Davidson of El Camino Real made the doubles second team, as did Chatsworth’s Loren Labovitch and Mark Swartz.

Ron Commans of Westlake shot 16-over par 296 to finish in a tie for 13th place at the British Open at Turnberry, Scotland last weekend. Commans earned $4,753, the largest payday of his career.

Buzz Greene of Thousand Oaks shot a 69 in the final round Sunday at the Hillcrest Country Club to finish in a tie for second at the Southern California Golf Assn. amateur championships. Greene’s 72-hole total was 286, three strokes behind winner David Sheff of San Marino.

Westlake’s Jimmy Chang, who plays out of North Ranch Country Club, shot an 83 Wednesday for a two-round total of 169 to qualify for match play in the U.S. national tournament in Dublin, Ohio. Match play begins today, and the tournament concludes Saturday. Chang trails two-round leader Michael Schaefer of Fresno, who posted a 152 score.

In a youth tournament at the Calabasas Country Club, brothers Chris and Mike Zambri, who also play out of North Ranch, captured the two-man championship Tuesday in the boys 15-16 division. The Zambris posted a 36-hole total of 139 and then defeated the team of Andy Wada and Robert Dissman in a playoff.

Kenny DeVore of Westlake and Andy Pierce of Canoga Park won age-group titles at the Los Angeles Junior Tennis Championships at Griffith Park on Sunday. DeVore defeated Bill Brown of Claremont, 1-6, 6-0, 6-2, to win the boys singles title for 18 year olds. Pierce beat Kent Seton of Beverly Hills, 6-4, 7-5, to win the boys singles championship for 16 year olds.

The West Valley Eagles are looking for boys between the ages of 7 and 9 in the west San Fernando Valley to play Pop Warner football. Practices begin Aug. 4; the first game will be played early in September. Registrations will be accepted up to the first game. Information: Jim Mills at (818) 884-8284.

Duffy Waldorf of Tarzana fired a three-under par 69 to finish third Monday in a Golden State Tour event at Soboba Springs. Waldorf, who finished three strokes behind winner Bill Viele of Hemet, earned $620.
