University of San Diego quarterback Pat Dixon threw for three touchdowns to lead the Toreros to a 20-16 come-from-behind victory Saturday night in their season opener at Whittier College.
Dixon, who threw for 180 yards, hit receiver Jeff Mansukhani for a 25-yard touchdown pass to give USD the lead. Whittier was stopped at the USD one-yard line in its final possession. USD took the early lead when Scott Reilly caught a 15-yard pass from Dixon in the first quarter.
Whittier quarterback Ramon Juarez led his team back with a 13-yard touchdown pass to Greg Salcido. A bad snap foiled Whittier’s extra-point attempt.
Whittier took a 16-7 lead in the second quarter on a 29-yard field goal by Aldin Tatley and a four-yard touchdown run by Kwan Lee. USD closed the gap early in the second half when Dixon again connected with Mansukhani, this time for a seven-yard touchdown pass.
