Community College Roundup : Golden West Wins in Volleyball

Setter Leslie Osterman had 18 assists, and outside hitter Barrie Daffron had 15 kills Wednesday to lead the Golden West College women’s volleyball team to a 15-11, 15-11, 15-6 victory over Orange Coast in the season opener played in the Rustlers’ gym at Huntington Beach.

The victory marked Albert Gasparian’s 50th as the Golden West coach. In a little more than three seasons, he has a 50-13 career record at the school.

In water polo action:

Cypress 11, Fullerton 6--Brian Howe scored four goals to lead the Chargers (1-1) to the victory over the Hornets in a nonconference match played at Cypress College.

Golden West 14, Cal State Long Beach Junior Varsity 10--Scott Larsen scored five goals to lead the Rustlers to a season-opening victory over the 49ers at Golden West College.
