SAN DIEGO — Todd Santos, San Diego State’s junior quarterback, is expected to start in Saturday’s Western Athletic Conference football game at Texas El Paso, Aztec Coach Denny Stolz said Thursday.
Santos broke his right wrist--his throwing hand--in the Aztecs’ 38-34 victory over New Mexico on Sept. 27 but began practicing with the team Tuesday.
“He’ll probably play,” Stolz said. “He’ll be re-evaluated (this morning) by the trainers and if there are no complications between now and the game I don’t see any reason to keep him out.”
Santos sat out SDSU’s last game two weeks ago, a 17-10 loss to Stanford. Jim Plum started at quarterback.
Santos, the school’s all-time leader in passing, currently ranks fifth in the nation in total offense, averaging 267.5 yards per game. He ranks 18th in the country in passing efficiency.
The Aztecs enter Saturday night’s game in El Paso with a 3-2 overall record. SDSU is 2-0 in WAC play, tied for first place with Wyoming.
