Mira Costa to Defend Volleyball Title Against Hueneme in Girls’ 5-A Final

Defending champion Manhattan Beach Mira Costa High School will play Oxnard Hueneme tonight in the feature match of the Southern Section girls’ volleyball finals at Marina High School in Huntington Beach. The finals begin with the Small Schools championship match at 9:30 a.m., followed by other divisional matches.

Mira Costa (21-0) brings a 45-match win streak into the final. After winning the 5-A title last year, the Mustangs went on to win the State championship and were named the national champion by Volleyball Monthly magazine. The magazine has ranked Mira Costa No. 1 again this season.

Hueneme, ranked No. 2 in the 5-A, is also unbeaten with a 17-0 record. The Vikings won on the road over Corona del Mar and Irvine Woodbridge, each in three straight games, to make the final. The match is scheduled to start at 8:45 p.m.

In other matches, Flintridge Sacred Heart plays Mammoth at 9:30 a.m. for the Small Schools title, followed by the 1-A final between Brentwood and North Hollywood Campbell Hall at 11:30 a.m.

Atascadero plays Thousand Oaks for the 2-A title at 1:30 p.m., with the 3-A final between Ojai Nordhoff and Calabasas at 3:30 p.m.

In the night matches, Cerritos Gahr plays Irvine for the 4-A title at 6:15 p.m., followed by the Mira Costa-Hueneme match.
