Athletic Director Bob Hitch and football Coach Bobby Collins have submitted their resignations to Southern Methodist’s board of governors, according to Bill Clements, chairman of the board and governor-elect of Texas.

“Both Mr. Hitch’s and Mr. Collins’ resignations were discussed,” Clements said. “I did not say it was accepted or rejected. Who brought it up first, I’m not prepared to say.”

The resignations were submitted amid pressure from university faculty members to take action to stem the tide of allegations of recruiting violations in the football program.

SMU, which was put on a three-year probation last year, could lose its football program for two years if the latest allegations prove true.
