ORANGE COUNTY PREP BASKETBALL : Girls’ Roundup : Erkenbrak Leads Canyon to 61-40 Win

Kari Erkenbrak scored 18 points and had 11 rebounds Friday night to lead the Canyon High School girls’ basketball team to a 61-40 victory over Sunny Hills in a semifinal game of the Bolsa Grande Tournament.

Lori Petronis added 10 points and 9 rebounds for the Comanches. Lisa Iino also had 10 points.

Canyon plays Santa Ana Valley for the championship at 7:30 tonight.

Santa Ana Valley 42, Bolsa Grande 32--Susan Hatchett scored 20 points for the Falcons.

In the other Bolsa Grande Tournament games:

Newport Harbor 50, Laguna Hills 45--The Sailors had three players score in double figures. Sarah Andrus scored 18, Stacey Giem 13 and Jennifer Stucker 10 for Newport Harbor, which advances to the consolation championship tonight against Trabuco Hills.

Cristy Grebel scored 17 for Laguna Hills.

Trabuco Hills 58, Rancho Alamitos 23--Lora Kinzly scored 20 points and Lisa Amato 9 as the Mustangs (4-5) advance to play Newport Harbor in consolation championship.

In the Savanna Tournament:

Tustin 55, J.W. North 43--Tricia Andras scored 15 points as the Tillers (7-3) took fifth place. Melissa Hammond had 10 points and 11 rebounds for Tustin.

Marina 54, Colton 40--Liberty Brewster and Dee Dee Stigar scored 13 points each for Marina in the third-place game. Stigar also had 10 rebounds.

Chrissy Sether led Colton (6-3) with 22.

In the Granada Tournament:

Berkeley 40, Ocean View 39--Denise Dotsin scored with 12 seconds left to lead Berkeley in a semifinal game. Dalene Lawson led Seahawks (4-4) with 16 points, and Cindy Hurzeler added 10.

In the Orange Lutheran Tournament:

Orange Lutheran 49, Head-Royce 41--Michelle Boltz scored 14 points to lead the Lancers (4-1) into the championship game today against L.A. Lutheran.

Connelly 40, La Verne 35--Robbie Clark scored 13 points to lead the Koalas, who advance to the consolation final.

In the Savanna Tournament:

Edison 69, Mater Dei 40--Edison led the entire game in the championship.

Edison center Kristy Smith had 23 points and 15 rebounds, and was named the tournament’s most valuable player. Denise Ogburn added 19 points and 8 assists.

Mater Dei was led by guard Geri Gainey, who scored 14 points, center Kelly O’Brien, who had 10.

Edison is 9-0 and Mater Dei is 8-2.

Edison plays host to Lynwood, the top-ranked Southern Section 4-A team and defending champion, at 7:30 Tuesday night.
