Irvine World News Tournament : Sea Kings Beaten by San Ramon : Corona del Mar Fades in Fourth Quarter, Loses Crown, 53-47

Eric McDonough scored 18 points to lead San Ramon High School to a 53-47 victory over Corona del Mar Saturday night in the championship game of the Irvine World News basketball tournament.

“We played real hard tonight and we don’t have anything to hang our heads about,” Corona del Mar Coach Paul Orris said. “I thought we just got tired in the fourth quarter.”

Corona del Mar was led by Markus Mueller-Stach with 17 points and Darren Mooris with 14.

The Sea Kings drop to 9-2 and San Ramon is 8-3.

In the consolation championship game:

Troy 43, Laguna Hills 40--Mark Rudometkin had 14 points and Steve Shirley 13 as the Warriors won the consolation championship. Peter Colburn led the Artists with 13 points.

Troy improves to 7-3 and Laguna Hills drops to 6-5. In the third-place game:

El Toro 69, Santa Ana 55--Forward Bobby Joyce, Santa Ana’s leading scorer, and three other players were suspended for an incident after Friday night’s game and did not play.

Bret Johnson led El Toro with 21 points and Cory Wayland added 19.

“This was a typical game for us,” El Toro Coach Tim Travers said. “We looked great at times and then we tended to relax.

“We get big leads and then we let people back into the game.”

El Toro is 6-3, Santa Ana is 8-3.

In the fifth-place game:

Woodbridge 71, Marina 69 (OT)--David Townsend made an 18-foot jump shot at the buzzer to win the game in overtime for Woodbridge (8-1). Townsend also made a shot at the end of regulation to tie the score at 62-62. Center Mark Georgeson led Marina (7-1) with 26 points. Adam Keefe scored 27 points for Woodbridge and Townsend added 14.

In the seventh-place game:

Long Beach Wilson 70, Los Amigos 66--Don Brotz scored 27 points for the Bruins. Gene Altimirano had 30 for Los Amigos.
