Orange County Prep Soccer : Harkins Scores 3 Goals to Pace La Quinta to Title

Kristin Harkins scored three goals Tuesday to lift the La Quinta High School girls’ soccer team to a 4-1 win over Temple City in the championship game of the Cerritos Tournament.
Goalie Leslie Schneider made seven saves for the Aztecs, who improved to 11-1. Harkins, who scored nine goals in five tournament games, was named most valuable player.
In other Cerritos Tournament action:
Kennedy 3, Valencia 0--The Irish shut out the Tigers to win third place.
Fountain Valley 5, Sonora 0--The Barons defeated the Raiders to win fifth place.
In boys’ soccer:
Marina 2, Mira Costa 1--Alan Knipe placed a 25-yard shot into the lower right-hand corner of the net 20 minutes into the second half to break a 1-1 tie at South Torrance High and pace the Vikings to the win and third place in the 32-team, South Torrance Tournament. Ed Gurzi scored the first goal for Marina (7-2-2).
