ORANGE COUNTY PREP BASKETBALL : Garden Grove League : Paquette Leads Rancho Alamitos Past Los Amigos
Forward Craig Paquette scored 41 points, 25 in the second half, and grabbed 18 rebounds to lead Rancho Alamitos High School to a 90-78 victory Friday night over Los Amigos in the Garden Grove League opener for both schools at Rancho Alamitos.
The score was tied, 43-43, at halftime, but the Vaqueros took control in the third and fourth periods. The Vaqueros (1-0, 7-6) also got 22 points from Randy Morales and 14 from Sean Cheatham. Guard Gene Altamirnao led Los Amigos (0-1, 9-7) with 21 points.
La Quinta 88, Garden Grove 68--Six-foot 10-inch center Brian Joe scored a career-high 27 points and grabbed 14 rebounds to lead the host Aztecs. Joe made 11 of 15 field-goal attempts as La Quinta improved to 7-7. Jeff Finch led Garden Grove (3-8) with 17 points.
Bolsa Grande 95, Santiago 65--The Matadors led by 15 at the end of a quarter and were never headed. Joe Small led Bolsa Grande with 21 points. Nam Cao added 19 points and 9 assists. The Matadors are 1-0, 7-5. Santiago is 0-1, 3-9.
