Lazers Score 1, Then Give Up 6 as Minnesota Strikers Win, 6-1

Helmut Dudek scored two goals to lead the Minnesota Strikers to a 6-1 Major Indoor Soccer League victory over the Lazers Sunday before 10,576 at the Met Center in Bloomington, Minn.

The Lazers’ Zizinho scored 15 seconds into the second quarter to give Los Angeles a 1-0 lead. Stuart Lee assisted on the goal.

But the Strikers then scored six straight goals to improve their record to 10-8. The Lazers fell to 6-11.

Tim Harris, the backup goalkeeper to David Brcic, made his first start of the season for the Lazers. Harris faced 25 Striker shots on goal. The Lazers had only 13 shots on Striker goalie Tino Lettieri.

Chris Dangerfield got the Strikers started, scoring on a power play five minutes after Zizinho’s goal to tie the score at 1-1. Alan Willey then scored an unassisted goal 8:30 into the second quarter to give Minnesota the lead, 2-1.

Dudek scored his first goal at the 11-minute mark of the third quarter on a pass from Steve Kinsey to make it 3-1. In the fourth quarter, Kinsey and Thompson Usiyan each scored before Dudek got his second goal on a pass off the boards from Usiyan to make it 6-1.

The Lazers return to the Forum Tuesday to play the Wichita Wings at 7:30 p.m.
