Orange County College Basketball : Cal State Los Angeles Beats Chapman

Junior forward Curtiss Bradley scored 21 points to lead Cal State Los Angeles to a 79-72 victory over Chapman in a California Collegiate Athletic Assn. game Saturday at Los Angeles.

Chapman led the game, 36-35, at the half but Ken Horton made a basket from 15 feet with 19:07 left in the second half to give Los Angeles a 37-36 lead.

The lead changed hands 15 times in the second half, with the Golden Eagles finally taking it for good on Horton’s jumper from the free-throw line with 2:10 remaining.

Los Angeles made six free throws in the final minute to clinch the victory.

The Golden Eagles were 17 for 18 for the game.

Los Angeles also shot 65 % (17 for 26) from the field in the second period.

The loss was the Panthers’ third in their last four CCAA games and dropped them to 6-6 in the conference with two games remaining. Chapman went into the game tied with Cal State Northridge for fourth place and the final spot in the CCAA tournament.

James Stewart added 18 points and 12 rebounds for Los Angeles (2-10 in the CCAA, 7-16 overall). Kelly Huston scored 17 points and grabbed 8 rebounds for the Panthers.

In the Golden State Athletic Conference:

Southern California College 76, Fresno Pacific 62--Junior forward Randy Wynne scored 20 points lead the host Vanguards in Costa Mesa. Rob Lucas added 18 points and 9 rebounds and teammage Jon Haar had 17 points and 9 rebounds for SCC (6-3, 19-7). Vanguard Jeff Stephens was 4 of 6 from the three-point line. John Berwick, from La Mirada, scored 25 points to lead Fresno Pacific (1-5, 8-17).

In nonconference action:

Arizona College of the Bible 109, Pacific Christian 103--Gary Sharpe scored 42 points to lead arizona College of the Bible to a 109-103 victory over Pacific Christian College in Titan Gym at Fullerton. Brian Keiser scored 32 points for PCC (14-15).
