Titans Play Host to Pomona in Softball Regional

Cal State Fullerton’s top-ranked softball team will play host to 12th-ranked Cal Poly Pomona in the NCAA West Regional softball tournament, beginning Friday at 7:30 p.m. at the Titan Softball Complex.

The best-of-three series will continue Saturday at 1 p.m. The third game, if necessary, will be played Saturday at 3 p.m.

The Titans (31-15, 55-8 overall) are the defending NCAA champions and co-champions of the Pacific Coast Athletic Assn. with Fresno State. Fullerton will make its sixth straight appearance in NCAA postseason play. The winner of the regional will earn one of eight spots in the College World Series, to be held May 20 to 25 in Omaha.

Cal Poly Pomona (22-12, 42-21) finished fourth in the PCAA and also is making its sixth straight appearance in the NCAA tournament.

Junior third baseman Betsy Burr leads the Broncos with a .312 average, and center fielder Alison Stowell is batting .311 with 25 RBIs. Shortstop Dana Ramos has a team-high 33 RBIs, and All-America first baseman Kandi Burke leads the team in home runs with five.

Pitcher Rhonda Wheatley (35-19), a three-time All-American, has a 0.53 ERA with 171 strikeouts and 17 shutouts.
