Southern Section Volleyball : Newport Harbor Wins, 3-0

Outside hitter Hugh Foster had 21 kills and 4 blocks to lead Newport Harbor over Santa Monica, 15-12, 15-4, 15-2, Tuesday in a Southern Section 4-A quarterfinal volleyball match at Newport Harbor.

John Alstrom had 11 kills and Mike Curci 9 kills and 8 blocks to help the top-ranked Sailors. Drew Sheward had 46 assists and Shaun Jarrard four ace serves for Newport Harbor (16-0).

In other 4-A quarterfinal matches:

Marina 3, Dos Pueblos 0--Alan Knipe, a 6-foot 5-inch middle blocker, hit three straight points to give Marina a 14-12 lead and then served for the winning point in the first game as the Vikings won the match, 15-12, 15-5, 15-2, at Dos Pueblos. Marina improved to 18-1. Dos Pueblos finishes at 14-2.

El Toro 3, Laguna Beach 1--The Chargers defeated the Artists, 15-9, 13-15, 16-14, 15-9, at El Toro. Al Vistaunet had 15 kills and 10 blocks and Matt Silva had 10 kills and 11 blocks for El Toro.

In a 3-A quarterfinal match:

Arcadia 3, La Quinta 1--Outside hitter Mike Whitcomb had 15 kills and middle blocker Brian Joe had 8 blocks as the Aztecs lost, 13-15, 15-10, 15-2, 15-9, at La Quinta. La Quinta finishes at 11-6.
