ORANGE COUNTY PREP FOOTBALL : Roundup : Brea-Olinda Turns Back Troy, 16-7

Brea-Olinda High School running back David Stark rushed for 76 yards and scored the winning points as the Wildcats defeated Troy, 16-7, Thursday night at Fullerton District Stadium in front of 1,500.

Stark kicked a 20-yard field goal with 2:36 left in the first half as Brea took a 9-7 lead and went on to get its first victory of the season, after losing last week to Baldwin (Hawaii), 17-6.

The Wildcat defense held Troy to minus-16 yards rushing in the second half. Brea (1-1) also took advantage of five first downs because of Troy penalties in the game.

Mike DeClark scored Brea’s first touchdown on a six-yard in the middle of the second quarter as the Wildcats took a 6-0 lead. The point-after attempt was wide right.

Stark added a one-yard touchdown run two plays into the fourth quarter to give Brea a 16-7 lead.

“The assistant coaches did a great job getting the team ready for the game,” said Brea Coach Bill Brown. “We needed this game in order to get our confidence back.”

Troy, which didn’t have a first down until its lone touchdown drive of the night, took a 7-6 lead with 5:21 left in the first half on an 11-yard run by quarterback Sean Scanlon. Jason Ross kicked the extra point to give Troy (0-1) a 7-6 lead.

Scanlon was 7-for-17 for 119 yards passing. In other games:

Sonora 24, Northview 24--Bill Robb threw two touchdown passes to wide receiver Graham Staines, but also threw five interceptions as the Raiders tied Northview. Northview running back Mike Galindo ran for 225 yards and a touchdown to lead Northview. Northview defensive back John Betancourt had four interceptions.

Trabuco Hills 20, Los Amigos 12--The Mustangs scored 20 points in the second half to overcome an early Lobo lead.

Jeff Dooley returned a punt 75 yards for a touchdown for Trabuco Hills in the fourth quarter to take the lead, 13-12.

Dooley caught a four-yard touchdown pass from John Barnes for the final score.

Jeff Greeney scored on a one-yard run and caught a nine-yard touchdown pass as Los Amigos built a 12-0 lead in the second half.
