ORANGE COUNTY PREP FOOTBALL : Roundup : Edmunds, Chisum Pace Sunny Hills’ 28-0 Rout

Sparked for the second straight week by running back Bryan Edmunds and quarterback David Chisum, Sunny Hills High School defeated Rolling Hills, 28-0, Friday night in Spaulding Stadium.

Edmunds rushed for 115 yards in 19 carries and scored both Lancer touchdowns in the second half on runs of four and three yards.

Chisum helped Sunny Hills to a 14-0 halftime lead as he hit Benny Rodriguez for a 31-yard touchdown pass and John Tysart for a 14-yard touchdown.

Gene Schutt and Nick Porcaro each blocked punts by Rolling Hills’ Scot Hagenburger, with Porcaro’s second-quarter deflection setting up Chisum’s second touchdown pass.

The Lancer defense held the Titans to 198 total yards.

Running back John Chi led Rolling Hills with 88 yards in 21 carries, and quarterback Steve Kennan completed 7 of 21 passes for 66 yards.

Sunny Hills (2-0) recorded its second consecutive shutout, and Rolling Hills (0-2) suffered its second straight shutout.

Norco 26, Orange 7--Despite 115 yards in penalties, the Cougars scored four touchdowns to beat the Panthers at Norco High School.

Norco (2-0) took a first-quarter lead on a 15-yard run by Joe Dantuono.

In the second quarter, Brian Benz hit Randy Curtis for a 24-yard touchdown pass. Minutes later, Benz hit Curtis again for a 35-yard touchdown pass and added the extra point for a 19-0 lead.

Orange scored in the fourth quarter on a four-yard run by Paul Maund. The extra point made it 19-7.

Benz was 7 of 13 for 137 yards and 3 touchdowns.

The Panthers (1-1) were unable to cross the 50-yard line in the first quarter.

“They have a good program and we have seven underclassmen,” Panther Coach Mark McMahon said. “We have a long way to go.”

St. Margaret’s 26, Buckley 8--Tailback Varney Fahnbullah rushed for 101 yards in 11 carries, including a 75-yard touchdown, to lead St. Margaret’s at home.

Sophomore fullback Trevor Durham rushed 73 yards in 10 carries and scored a touchdown and Damian Jones intercepted a pass and ran 20 yards for a score in the fourth quarter to help the Tartans (1-1).

Villa Park 21, Katella 0--John Genova, a 5-foot 10-inch, 190-pound senior fullback, scored three touchdowns to lead the Spartans in front of 750 in Fred Kelly Stadium at Orange.

Genova scored twice on runs of 1 and 35 yards.

“Katella scared me offensively,” said Pat Mahoney, Villa Park coach. “But I thought we could handle them on the line of scrimmage, and that’s what we did.”

Genova scored in the first quarter and again in the second after senior Lance Rabun’s interception. He scored his final touchdown in the third quarter.

Villa Park is 2-0; Katella is 1-1.
