COLLEGE FOOTBALL : Holy Toledo! Holy Cross Rolls Up 557 Yards to Beat Bucknell, 48-10

Junior quarterback Jeff Wiley passed for 389 yards and 3 touchdowns, and Gordie Lockbaum amassed a career-high 270 all-purpose yards as Holy Cross, the Division I-AA’s No. 1-ranked team, rolled up 557 total yards and beat Bucknell, 48-10, Saturday to clinch the Colonial League title.

The Crusaders improved to 6-0 overall and 4-0 in the league. Bucknell dropped to 2-4 and 1-3.

Holy Cross scored on the first play from scrimmage as Wiley, on a flea-flicker, passed to Lockbaum for a 37-yard touchdown. Lockbaum also scored on runs 1, 8 and 4 yards.

Lockbaum, who was fifth in last year’s Heisman Trophy balloting, caught 7 passes for 165 yards, ran 5 times for 20 yards, returned 3 punts for 42 yards and returned a kickoff for 43 yards.

Lockbaum, who plays both offense and defense, registered a sack from his defensive back position. Holy Cross held Bucknell to 195 total yards.

Wiley, who left the game early in the fourth quarter, completed 20 of 30 passes. He hooked up with Rick Lane on a 91-yard touchdown pass play as the Crusaders rolled to a 27-3 halftime lead.

Wiley also passed two yards to Lee Hull for a third-quarter touchdown.

Tom Kelleher chipped in a nine-yard rushing touchdown for the Crusaders.

Lane caught 4 passes for 123 yards.

Bucknell scored on a field goal of 33 yards by Steve Barimo and a 51-yard touchdown pass play from Jim Given to Mike Guerrini.

Guerrini had 5 receptions for 103 yards, his third consecutive game of more than 100 yards receiving.
