Unseeded Torrance needed only 35 minutes Wednesday night to advance to the second round of the CIF 4-A girls volleyball playoffs, where the going figures to get tougher. The Tartars polished off Cerritos in the opener at Torrance, 15-2, 15-2, 15-7.

The easy victory gave Torrance, the Bay League champion, the right to meet No. 1 seed Long Beach Wilson on Friday. Wilson was a winner in straight games Wednesday over Cypress. The site of Friday’s game will be determined by a coin flip today.

The Tartars’ back line made it look easy against Cerritos as setter Cindee Rutherford recorded seven service aces and setter Kerri Mosby had five more. Up front, outside hitter Debbie Cota had eight kills to lead the way.
