BIG FIVE CONFERENCE

Crespi 38, Riverside Poly 32--Running back Russell White, the 1986 Big Five conference player of the year, rushed 28 times for 344 yards--a personal best--and 5 touchdowns to lead the Celts at Birmingham High. Crespi led at the half, 35-17, as White scored on runs of 50, 1, 22, 8, and 75 yards. Riverside Poly came back with a touchdown, a two-point conversion, and another touchdown to make it close in the second half. White, a junior, has 1,870 yards in 170 carries and 33 touchdowns this season. Crespi, the defending conference champion, is 9-1-1. Riverside Poly finishes at 4-6-1.

Bishop Amat 35, Lakewood 7--Running back Mayfield Royster rushed 19 times for 246 yards and 3 touchdowns, and the second-seeded Lancers held Lakewood to just 20 yards rushing at Bishop Amat. Royster, a senior, rushed for touchdowns of 58, 48, and 24 yards. Fullback Adam Rogers had 92 yards in 17 carries and a touchdown for Bishop Amat (11-0). Lakewood finishes 3-7.

COASTAL CONFERENCE

Canyon Country Canyon 21, North Torrance 13--Junior quarterback Rod Baltau completed 7 of 12 passes for 141 yards and touchdowns of 34 and 27 yards and ran for a third touchdown for the top-seeded Cowboys. Canyon opened a 21-0 lead before North Torrance rallied for two four-quarter touchdowns on a 35-yard pass from Jim Henderson to Brian Carter and a 1-yard run by Anthony Anatema. Canyon’s sophomore running back Chris Peery did not play due to a sprained ankle. Canyon has won its last nine games and is 9-2. North Torrance finishes 5-5.

SOUTHERN CONFERENCE

Villa Park 21, Capistrano Valley 19--Todd Marinovich, who has passed for more yards than any other high school player in history, rolled up 330 yards, but it wasn’t enough to overcome Villa Park. In four years of playoff competition, Marinovich has won just one game. Capistrano Valley closed to within two points in the fourth quarter, when Marinovich passed for a 13-yard touchdown to David Rawson. Marinovich attemted to ruin in a two-point conversion but failed. Villa Park is 8-3. Capistrano Valley finishes 8-3.

EASTERN CONFERENCE

Los Altos 16, Glendora 0--The Sierra League champion Conquerors (10-1) recorded their fourth shutout of the year in beating the Tartans (6-5) before a crowd of 5,000 at Los Altos. Brady Berg kicked field goals of 29, 34 and 39 yards for Los Altos, which overcame four turnovers.

Montebello 23, West Covina 17--The Oilers, seeded No. 1 in the Eastern Conference, struggled for the win at Montebello. Johnny Macias caught a six-yard touchdown pass from Larry Razo for early in the fourth quarter to break a 10-10 tie and put the Oilers ahead for good. Macias also caught a 22-yarder from Razo later in the fourth quarter. Razo, a senior, threw for three scores in all, including a six-yarder to Mike Valenzuela in the first quarter. Montebello is 11-0, while West Covina finishes 5-5-1.

NORTHWESTERN CONFERENCE

Burbank Burroughs 35, Pius X 10--Quarterback Jeff Barnett passed for 176 yards and 2 touchdowns as second-seeded Burroughs gained an easy win at home. The Indians scored on the first play from scrimmage when wind receiver Kevin Strasser took a handoff from Barrett and completed a 60-yard pass play to Bruce Luizzi. Burroughs is 10-1. Pius X finishes 6-5.

CENTRAL CONFERENCE

Valencia 27, Santiago 0--Keef Leasure rushed for 168 yards in 23 carries and scored on four short runs to pace the second-seeded Tigers. The Valencia defense sacked Santiago quarterback Jason Marquez 10 times and limited him to just 4 of 10 completions for 38 yards. Marquez was also intercepted three times. Valencia is now 9-2. Santiago finished 5-4-1.

DESERT-MOUNTAIN CONFERENCE

Atascadero 42, Agoura 7--Chad Dubrul rushed for 231 yards and 4 touchdowns for the defending champion Greyhounds. Unseeded Atascadero took a 21-7 halftime lead as Dubrul had touchdowns of 19, 15 and 12 yards.

SOUTHEASTERN CONFERENCE

Baldwin Park 21, San Bernardino 0--Quarterback Kirk Gair completed 14 of 27 passes for 239 yards and 3 touchdowns to lead the Braves to a win at Baldwin Park. Junior wide receiver Bruno Haro caught 7 passes for 143 yards, including a 60-yard touchdown pass play from Gair in the second quarter. Fourth-seeded Baldwin Park, which improves to 10-1, outgained San Bernardino, 395-111. San Bernardino finishes 5-6.

Central 76, Mountain View 0--The Spartans, the highest-scoring team in the Southern Section, racked up 451 total yards--359 rushing--while holding Mountain View to minus-34 yards rushing in the victory at Central. Running back Gerald Robinson rushed just 13 times but had 198 yards and touchdown runs of 3, 20, 37, and 31 yards. Running back Gene Martin had 68 yards in 7 carries, a 31-yard run for a touchdown, and caught scoring passes of 6 and 44 yards from quarterback Ronnie Castillo. Mountain View quarterback Steve Olavarria completed 19 of 38 passes for 200 yards but was intercepted 5 times. Central (11-0) has outscored its opponents, 554-39. Mountain View finishes 5-6.
