PREP FOOTBALL PLAYOFFS / BIG FIVE CONFERENCE : Carter Leads Long Beach Poly to 32-9 Win Over Mater Dei

Mike Carter threw for two touchdowns and ran for another to lead Long Beach Poly High School to a 32-9 Southern Section Big Five first-round playoff victory over Mater Dei Friday at Long Beach Wilson High.
Long Beach Poly (7-3), which has won six straight and seven of its last eight games, will play Fontana in second-round action next week.
Carter, who completed 11 of 23 passes for 246 yards, gave the Jackrabbits a 7-0 lead on the game’s second play when he threw a 77-yard scoring pass to Tony McCullouch.
Mater Dei (7-4) narrowed Long Beach Poly’s lead to 7-2 with seven minutes left in the first quarter when Lua Pola and Mike Kelly tackled the Jackrabbits’ Rufus Young in the end zone for a safety.
The Monarchs took a 9-7 lead two minutes after the safety on a one-yard run by Mark Ramstack. Then, with five minutes left in the second quarter, Long Beach Poly went ahead, 13-9, on Andre Green’s one-yard run.
