Vista’s Request to Postpone Playoff Opener Is Denied

Share

A temporary restraining order that would have delayed Friday’s opening-round playoff game between San Dieguito and Helix high schools was denied Friday by a judge in San Diego Superior Court.

The request, which was turned down by Judge Vincent DiFiglia, was filed by attorney Frank Gould, who was representing five seniors on the Vista High School football team.

“The judge felt the harm that would be incurred (through scheduling conflicts) by the San Diego Section would be greater than the harm suffered by the Vista team not being allowed to participate at this time,” Gould said after the closed hearing.

DiFiglia did not rule on Gould’s allegation that Vista was left out of the playoffs because the section’s team selection procedure is flawed. DiFiglia scheduled a Dec. 2 hearing to argue that point.
