State Volleyball Playoffs : Newport Harbor, Irvine and CdM Win

Newport Harbor High School scored an easy victory over Carson in the Division I girls’ state volleyball tournament Tuesday, downing the Colts, 15-3, 15-7, 15-2, in a first-round match at Newport Harbor.
The Sailors, who won the 5-A Southern Section title two weeks ago, are 22-0. Carson finishes its season at 13-2.
Newport Harbor next will play host to Palisades, which defeated Grossmont, Saturday in the second round.
In other first-round matches:
Irvine 3, Mt. Carmel 1--Irvine, which won the 3-A championship two weeks ago, advanced to the second round with a 15-7, 15-5, 5-15, 15-0 victory at home. Irvine is 17-2 and Mt. Carmel ends at 19-7.
Irvine will play host to Corona del Mar Saturday in the second round.
Corona del Mar 3, Bakersfield Highland 0--Corona del Mar (21-3) won, 15-7, 15-12, 15-6, at Highland.
