Soccer Roundup : Esperanza’s Girls Rally to Tie Los Alamitos, 1-1

Colleen Gamblin scored in the second half to lift Esperanza High School to a 1-1 tie with Los Alamitos in an Empire League girls’ soccer match Tuesday at Los Alamitos. The teams remain tied for first place in league.

Los Alamitos (16-2-2, 3-0-1) scored in the first half on a goal by Megan Fife, who got an assist from Leanna Jay. Esperanza is 13-1-2 and 3-0-1.

In the Century League:

Villa Park 3, Foothill 1--Jennifer Fitzmaurice , Dana Armstrong and Susie Barnett scored for host Villa Park (5-5-2, 1-1-1).

In the Sunset League:

Edison 3, Ocean View 1--Kendra Whisenand scored two goals and Tami Hesser one for host Edison (10-4-4, 2-1-1). Teresa Mathany scored for Ocean View.

Marina 0, Huntington Beach 0--Christian Rossman had eight saves for Marina (2-5-5, 0-0-4) and Stephanie Pemper had eight saves for host Huntington Beach.

Fountain Valley 3, Westminster 1--Nicole Reichstein, Leslie Snyder and Terrilyn Martin each scored for host Fountain Valley (9-3-3, 3-0-1). Christy Cappan scored for Westminster (1-6-1, 0-3-1), and goalie Julie Oberle had 15 saves.

In the Garden Grove League:

La Quinta 4, Pacifica 3--Freshman Cheryl Jones and teammate Lara Crawley each scored two second-half goals for host La Quinta, as the Aztecs (10-3-1, 3-0) rallied from a 2-0 halftime deficit. Donna Fitzpatrick scored two goals and Cindy Parker scored one for Pacifica. Goalie Nicole Medina had 15 saves for the Mariners. Leslie Schneider had seven saves for La Quinta.

In the Pacific Coast League:

Laguna Hills 2, Woodbridge 0--Claudia Smedes and Joanna Noble scored in the first half for Laguna Hills (11-5-1, 3-0) at Woodbridge. Lynn Lambert had a save for Laguna Hills and Melissa Gover 15 for Woodbridge.

In the South Coast League:

Capistrano Valley 1, Irvine 0--Jill Linhart scored with 12 minutes left for host Capistrano Valley (12-2-1, 2-0-1). Pam Gladden had three saves for Capistrano Valley.

In boys’ Orange League matches:

Valencia 6, Magnolia 0--Jeff Hudson scored three goals and Chris Stempson, Tad Baden and Tim Rashford one each for Valencia (7-6-1, 1-0-1) at Magnolia.

Anaheim 1, Western 0--Flavio Camacho scored late in the game for Anaheim (7-4, 2-0), and goalie Jose Escobedo had 10 saves for the Colonists.

In a nonleague match:

Orange Lutheran 5, Whitney 1--Scott Runyan scored two goals for the Lancers (7-3-1), and teammates Brian Wallace, Oren Beske and Mike Fleischli each scored once.
