Girls’ Soccer Roundup : Laguna Hills Captures League Championship for 4th Straight Year

The Laguna Hills High School girls’ soccer team clinched its fourth consecutive league title with a 4-0 victory over Woodbridge Thursday in a Pacific Coast League match at Woodbridge.

Laguna Hills has won the Pacific Coast League championship for two straight seasons and the South Coast League title the two previous seasons.

Joanna Nobel scored two goals for Laguna Hills (15-5-1, 7-0) which is the fifth-ranked team in the Southern Section 3-A division poll.

Alicia Casey and Christiana DeFelice scored the other goals.

“The girls worked very hard; they deserve this,” said Kerry Krause, Laguna Hills coach, who is in his fifth year. “I hope this is our year (in the playoffs).”

Lynn Lambert had three saves for Laguna Hills, and Melissa Gover had 20 for Woodbridge, which was outshot, 30-3.

Woodbridge is 7-8-2, 3-2-1.

In the Century League:

Villa Park 3, El Modena 0--Goalie Barbara Concannon made eight saves for host Villa Park (6-9-3, 5-1-1). Susie Barnett scored at the 32-minute mark to give Villa Park a 1-0 lead. Jennifer Nunez and Dana Armstrong scored second-half goals.

In the Garden Grove League:

Pacifica 3, La Quinta 3--Devon Fitzpatrick scored with two minutes left to tie the score at La Quinta. Cheryl Jones had scored with five minutes left to give La Quinta (14-4-2, 6-1-1) a 3-2 lead. Jones also scored in the first half.

Lara Crowley scored the other goal for La Quinta. April Burton and Shawna Dusserre scored the other Pacifica goals. La Quinta outshot Pacifica, 17-7.

In the Sea View League:

Corona del Mar 2, Estancia 0--Tracy Schriber had a goal and an assist to lead visiting Corona del Mar (11-5-3, 6-0-2). Schriber had an assist on Prentice Perkins’ first-half goal. Schriber then scored in the second half. Kim Kolstad had four saves for Corona del Mar and Alicia Miller had six saves for Estancia, 4-2-2 in league play.

In the South Coast League:

Mission Viejo 1, El Toro 0--Stacey Hopper scored 20 minutes into the first half for host Mission Viejo (20-0-2, 7-0-1). Goalie Tamar deFries had one save for Mission Viejo. Page Lauby made four saves for El Toro (1-2-4 in league play).

Capistrano Valley 1, Dana Hills 1--Jill Linhart scored five minutes into the second half for host Capistrano Valley (13-3-3, 3-1-3). Dana Hills’ Janae Deffenbaugh scored with three minutes left to tie the score. Goalie Pam Gladden made seven saves for Capistrano Valley. Karla Gunderson made eight saves for Dana Hills (11-6-4, 3-4-1).

In the Sunset League:

Edison 4, Ocean View 0--Senior center forward Kendra Whisenand scored three goals to lead first-place Edison at home. Whisenand scored two goals in the first half as Edison (11-4-5, 5-1-2) opened a 2-0 lead. Whisenand and Kelly Biefield scored in the second half. Nikki Turner had three saves for Edison, and Debbie Lamporte had eight saves for Ocean View.

Marina 1, Huntington Beach 0--Melanie Frakes, daughter of Marina Coach Larry Frakes, scored 15 minutes into the second half for host Marina (5-6-6, 2-1-5). Cristian Rossman had seven saves for Marina, and Stefanie Pemper had 10 saves for Huntington Beach, 3-2-2 in league play.
